Hazy View
Hazy View is a South African wine brand primarily known for its approachable and “easy-drinking” varietals, most notably its Chenin Blanc and Pinotage. Produced in the Western Cape, these wines are typically crafted for the UK market and are designed to represent classic South African styles without heavy oak ageing.
The Western Cape, a mountainous and biologically varied region in the southwest of Africa, is where the grapes for these traditional South African wines are grown. Although the region’s climate is generally more Mediterranean, the mountainous topography produces mesoclimates that are perfect for producing high-quality wines.
Vineyards on the Western Cape are influenced and refreshed by the oceanic breezes from the Atlantic and the warmer currents of the Indian Ocean as they meet near the South African Cape.
- Hazy View Chenin Blanc: A fresh and aromatic white wine featuring notes of tangy green apple, ripe melon, and tropical fruits. It is typically crisp with high acidity and no malolactic fermentation, making it a good choice for seafood or as an aperitif.
- Hazy View Pinotage: A medium-bodied red that offers a modern, fruit-driven expression of South Africa’s signature grape. Expect flavours of ripe plum, brambly fruit, and red cherry, often with a smooth finish and soft tannins.
- Region: Sourced from various areas within the Western Cape, including Paarl and Swartland.
- Style: Focused on being “gluggable” and quaffable, these wines are generally vinified in stainless steel to maintain their bright fruit characteristics.
- ABV: Generally ranges from 11.5% to 14.5% depending on the vintage and variety.
