Hartenberg Estate Chardonnay

Hartenberg Estate Chardonnay – Already known for our world-class Shiraz, it seems our Chardonnay is Hartenberg’s next star with it’s consistency in ratings and awards. Grapes were handpicked in the early morning of each of the 4 days of picking so as to capture the subtle primary flavours that the variety offers. Every batch from each of the morning picks as well as those of the individual parcels were kept separate in the cellar so as to aid quality selection when it came to assembling the final blend.
TASTING NOTE:
On the bouquet the wine shows alluring aromas of white pear, Elder flower and subtle hints of toasted vanilla and white flowers. The palate is fresh yet creamy with the ripe pear and citrus acidity following
through. Well-integrated oak allows for a toasty and lingering finish.
FOOD MATCHING:
Cream based foods, smoked chicken or duck, seared tuna with olive oil, lime juice and black pepper.
TECHNICAL & PRODUCTION:
Barrel Ageing Fermented and matured for 12 months in French Oak (225 l) 15% new, 33% in second fill, balance in third fill barrels.
Maturation Up to 10 years from vintage
Alcohol 13% by volume
Residual Sugar 2,6 g/l
Total Acid 7,0 g/l
pH 3,25

In alignment with the Mackenzie family, owners of the estate since 1986, our Cellar Master, Carl Schultz, who has long been a passionate advocate of working with nature, has overseen many of the regenerative agriculture projects implemented to harness and protect the natural resources since he joined Hartenberg in 1994.
Due to its positive impact on the environment, regenerative agriculture is truly the only antidote to the climate crisis we are facing. Hartenberg’s regenerative approach encompasses all aspects of the farm, including everyone who lives and works there.
